About MTC

What is MOVE THAT COUCH!?

MOVE THAT COUCH! is a marketplace that connects people who need local services with independent providers who want the work.

Customers post what they need done, compare quotes, and choose who they want to hire. MTC launched with services like furniture delivery, moving help, furniture assembly and mounting, and junk removal — with more local service categories on the way.

In short: MTC helps people get things done, and helps local service providers find work.

MOVE THAT COUCH! is an independent company and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by The University of Texas at Austin.

We’re selecting two entrepreneurial students at UT Austin as our Founding Campus Ambassadors to introduce MOVE THAT COUCH! to the student community — in the places and ways that feel natural to you.

The opportunity

Build something you can point to.

Build. Measure. Learn. Earn.

Help us figure out how MTC grows at UT Austin.
Build and experiment with your own ideas, measure what you accomplish, learn from the process, and earn from the users you bring with you.

01 / BUILD

Help build something real.

As a Founding Campus Ambassador, you’ll help MTC figure out how to grow at UT Austin — which messages work, where customers come from, how providers are recruited, and what actually gets people to use the marketplace.

Experiment with your own ideas. Try different ways of reaching students, recruiting providers, and introducing MTC to the campus community. See what works, learn from the results, and decide what to try next.

You choose what to test.

02 / MEASURE

Have the numbers to show what you accomplished.

MTC tracks the users you refer and the activity they generate, giving successful Ambassadors concrete results they can point to — not just a title and a generic list of responsibilities.

Instead of simply saying you helped market a startup, you’ll be able to describe the customers and providers you brought to the platform, the strategies you tested, and the measurable impact you made.

At the end of the program, we plan to help successful Ambassadors summarize those results using MTC’s referral and activity data.

03 / LEARN

Learn from the process.

If you’re interested in learning more about building a startup, you’ll have direct access to MTC’s founder and opportunities to learn from the real challenges of growing an early-stage marketplace — customer acquisition, provider growth, product decisions, marketing experiments, and what works (and what doesn’t).

Founder access is informal and optional, not a required meeting schedule or mentorship curriculum.

For successful Ambassadors, we’re also happy to serve as a professional reference and, when appropriate, provide letters of recommendation for graduate programs or future opportunities.

As MTC grows, strong Campus Ambassadors may also be considered for future paid roles or other opportunities with the company. Future employment is not promised or guaranteed.

04 / EARN

Earn 25% for life from the users you refer.

Refer customers. Refer providers. Earn from both.

Refer someone during your active Ambassador term and earn 25% of MTC’s revenue from that user for the lifetime of their account — even after your Ambassador term ends.

Refer both customers and providers and you can earn from both sides of the marketplace.

After your Ambassador term: You can keep referring new users to MTC. New referrals made after your term will earn at MTC’s standard referral rate, currently 10%.

Your campus. Your ideas. Your schedule.

The Founding Campus Ambassador term runs through the 2026–27 academic year. This is an independent, performance-based referral opportunity — not employment or an internship.

01 — REFER

Find the fit.

Customers who need a hand or service providers looking for flexible income.

02 — DURING YOUR TERM

Make it yours.

Experiment throughout the 2026–27 academic year. You decide how, when, and where to introduce MTC and we'll be here to support you.

03 — AFTER YOUR TERM

Your referrals keep earning.

Your Ambassador term ends, but your 25% referral rate doesn’t. You continue earning 25% of MTC’s revenue from users you referred during your active term for the lifetime of their accounts.

Built to work around your schedule. School comes first. There are no scheduled shifts, required hours, weekly posting requirements, or sales quotas. You’ll have the freedom to experiment when your schedule allows, with MTC providing ideas, tools, feedback, and support along the way.

We’re looking for people who can help us figure it out.

We don’t expect you to arrive with a campus marketing strategy. We’re looking for curious, creative, self-directed students who understand student life at UT Austin and are willing to experiment with ways to introduce MTC to other students.

01 / KNOW YOUR CAMPUS

You understand student life.

You have a feel for how students discover things and communicate — student organizations, group chats, social media, campus events, residence halls, off-campus student housing, and word of mouth. You can recognize places where MTC might naturally be useful or worth talking about.

02 / HELP SHAPE THE PLAYBOOK

Curious. Creative. Self-directed.

This is MTC’s first campus program, so there isn’t a finished playbook to follow. Try ideas, see what gets students interested, share what you learn, and help us figure out what a successful Campus Ambassador program should look like.

We’re not looking for someone to follow the playbook. We’re looking for someone to help write it.

Questions, answered plainly.

The short version: it’s flexible, independent, and performance-based.

Is this a job or internship?

No. The MOVE THAT COUCH! Campus Ambassador Program is an independent, performance-based referral opportunity. There are no scheduled shifts, required hours, sales quotas, or guaranteed earnings. You decide when, where, and how much you participate. Employees perform assigned work under an employer’s direction; internships are generally structured work-and-learning experiences. Ambassadors participate independently and earn referral commissions based on qualifying activity from users they refer.

How many Campus Ambassadors are you selecting?

We’re selecting two Founding Campus Ambassadors at UT Austin for the 2026–27 academic year. We’re keeping the program intentionally small so we can work closely with our first ambassadors, learn what works, and build the program from there.

How long is the Campus Ambassador term?

The Founding Campus Ambassador role runs through the 2026–27 academic year. Users you refer during your active term remain attributed to you afterward, and you continue earning the 25% Ambassador referral rate from those users for the lifetime of their accounts.

You can continue referring new users after your Ambassador term ends. New referrals made after your term will earn MTC’s standard referral rate in effect at that time, which is currently 10%.

Do I need to already use MOVE THAT COUCH! to apply?

No. You don’t need an existing MTC account to apply. If you’re selected for the program, we’ll help you get properly set up.

Can I use MTC too?

Absolutely. Campus Ambassadors can use MTC as customers, service providers, or both. In fact, we encourage you to experience the marketplace yourself — there’s no better way to understand the product you’re helping introduce to other students.

Campus Ambassadors may also be eligible for reimbursements when they use MTC to experience the marketplace themselves. Reimbursements are considered individually and are available only for successfully completed services.

Do I need a large social-media following?

No. We’re more interested in entrepreneurial thinking and real connections than follower counts.

Can I refer both customers and service providers?

Yes. You can refer either side of the marketplace and earn from both.

How does the 25% referral payout work?

MTC earns revenue when customers successfully book and complete services through the marketplace. As part of the booking process, customers pay MTC a booking deposit, which becomes MTC’s booking revenue when the service is successfully completed.

As a Campus Ambassador, you earn 25% of the booking revenue attributable to users you refer during your active term. You can refer customers, providers, or both — and if you referred both users involved in the same transaction, you can earn from both sides.

MTC tracks referral activity automatically, and earnings are paid through our automated Stripe payout system. There are no guaranteed earnings; what you earn depends on the activity of the users you bring to MTC.

Is income guaranteed?

No. Earnings depend on qualifying activity from users you refer, and there are no guaranteed earnings.

What happens to my referrals after my Ambassador term ends?

Nothing changes for the users you referred while you were an active Campus Ambassador. Your 25% Ambassador referral rate continues for the lifetime of those users’ accounts, even after your Ambassador term ends.

You can also continue referring new users to MTC after your term. New referrals made after the term will earn MTC’s standard referral rate in effect at that time, currently 10%.

Could this lead to other opportunities with MTC?

Potentially. As MTC grows, we may have future opportunities in marketing, campus growth, market expansion, operations, or other areas. Strong Campus Ambassadors may be considered for future paid roles or other opportunities, but participation in the program does not guarantee future employment.

What about taxes?

Ambassador earnings are taxable income. MTC and/or its payment processor may request tax information and issue applicable tax forms when required by law. Ambassadors are responsible for their own tax obligations.
